Digital Photography | Winter Birds

In the winter, we throw seed out on an area of our driveway to feed the wild birds. With the cold and snowy weather Nashville recieved in January of 2010, the birds were especially hungry.

With so many avians in attendance, I decided to bundle up, steal my dad's camera, and crawl out to get some interesting shots.  (Click on any thumbnail in the gallery to see an enlargement.)

Most of these are small birds, photographed from about 15-20 feet away, using a 70-300mm image-stabilized zoom lens.

Below you can see three examples of still photographs I have captured on various rock climbing trips. These were mainly shot on a small point-and-shoot, with an eye toward composition and color.

Last winter I had the opportunity to photograph a partially frozen waterfall.  I enjoyed juxtaposing the solid ice and flowing water.
